This Blue Maori Womens Kapa Haka Costume is perfect for Kapa Haka performances, as well as when you need to dress in a New Zealand national costume. The costume accurately replicates that worn by kapa haka groups to sing, dance, and do the poi, without the expense of the intricately woven bodices and flax piupius.
Ideal for Kapa Haka groups, Nation Days, and to celebrate Waitangi Day, and for adult dress-ups.
The Blue Maori Womens Kapa Haka Costume is an adjustable garment. It consists of a printed bodice and attached black skirt, piupiu over top of the skirt, and headband. The bodice/skirt is fastened at the back with strips of velcro. This allows you to adjust the garment to fit perfectly. The piupiu also fastens with velcro.
The total effect is stunning.
The sizes are coded 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16. For each size, we've provided a chart (below) showing the corresponding dress size for various regions, as well as the actual garment measurements. Your bust size should be approximately 2cm less than the garment measurement. We strongly advise that you measure your bust size before ordering.
"Additional Ease" refers to the overlap at the back, where one side of the back garment velcros over the other side. This Additional Ease allows you to increase the size of the garment by the amount of Additional Ease, but still allowing a short strip of velcro closure. For example, the A10 size garment is made for a bust size of just under 90cm, but with the Additional Ease, that can increase by up to 7.5cm. Conversely, the garment may be wrapped further around the back velcro pieces to decrease the size.

The costume design was derived from the costume worn by the Otatara Cultural Club of Taradale, New Zealand. The design depicts New Zealand national bird, the Kiwi, which is surrounded by the Niho-Taniwha pattern ( dragons teeth) and the Three Baskets of Knowledge. This design was the work of three people, namely Ellen Coulter, Ngaupoko Batt, and Baden Batt. Only Baden is still alive, and he gives his unreserved consent to the costume and the Maori motifs used on them.
